data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Franz Josef Kiefer, the vintner of the Margrave of Baden at Staufenberg Castle and staff holder of Durbach-Heimburg, built the house in 1780 as a typical winegrower\u2019s house.<\/p><p>After the Durbach municipality acquired the property in 1875, it was used from 1877 as a nursing home and hospital to care for poor, old, and sick villagers (also referred to as \u2018Pfr\u00fcndner\u2019 because they had secured permanent accommodation and care by leaving a bequest). Residents were cared for by the Franciscan Sisters of Mercy of Gengenbach Abbey. <\/p><p>When the Gengenbach Abbey recalled the sisters at the end of September 1967, the \u2018hospital\u2019 was shut down, and the building was used as a residence for teachers. It has been home to Durbach\u2019s Wine and Local History Museum since 1995. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-30af597 elementor-widget__width-initial ha-has-bg-overlay elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"30af597\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p align=\"left\">The remoteness of the Durbach valley necessitated a special infirmary where other sick people from the community could also be cared for.
