St. Heinrich Church 12
From 1577 onwards, Durbach had a Protestant congregation, which built a parish church in 1618, which has stood there since. The turmoil of the Thirty Years’ War probably meant the end for the Protestant community. After all, the same church was used by the Catholic community as early as 1635.
In 1655, Wilhelm Hermann von Orscelar zu Staufenberg, the feudatory of the Staufenberg demesne, finally donated the church dedicated to the Holy Roman Emperor Henry II with the support of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria, the Prince-Bishop of Strasbourg. The church was rebuilt in 1789/90. Followed by an extension in 1922. An extensive renovation and redesign under consideration of the old specifications took place from 1988 to 1990.
